Ich habe mich bemüht die Orte, die Gebräuche und die genannten historischen Personen, deren Lebens-und Gedankenwelten die oft mit dem Handlungsablauf verknüpft sind, möglichst korrekt darzustellen. Der Protagonist des Romans, Konrad, tritt als Ich-Erzähler auf und lässt den Leser an seinen erlebnisreichen Jahren, zwischen 1506 und 1525, lebhaft teilhaben.
