Der Verfasser war, unmittelbar nach Beendigung seines Studiums an der Bergakademie Freiberg, von 1959 bis 1969 Leiter der Steinkohlenaufbereitung im Steinkohlenwerk Oelsnitz/E.. Im Anschluss und bis 1976 war er in der sogenannten Nachfolgeindustrie, im Sinterwerk Oelsnitz (Betriebsteil des VEB Thüringer Schiefergruben Unterloquitz) tätig und ab 1977 bis 1991 bei der Akademie der Wissenschaften der DDR im Forschungsinstitut für Aufbereitung Freiberg Arbeitsgruppenleiter.
