About the author
Theodor Piening wurde in Meldorf geboren und durchlief hier das Gymnasium (die Gelehrtenschule). Als 18/19-Jähriger war er Kriegsteilnehmer gegen Dänemark, studierte 1851-53 in Kiel, Göttingen und Gießen Philologie und lebte danach als Privatlehrer und Schriftsteller in Hamburg.
