Über Hoya zur Zeit des Zweiten Weltkriegs ist bereits vieles bekannt. Einige heute zugängliche Quellen und Erkenntnisse sind bislang aber auch noch nicht veröffentlicht worden. Vor allem fehlt es an einer Gesamtdarstellung der Ereignisse. Diesem Mangel soll vorliegend zumindest ansatzweise abgeholfen werden. Die Hoyaer Soldaten, der Angriff auf den Fliegerhorst und die Kämpfe um die Stadt im April 1945 bilden das Gerüst eines chronologischen Ablaufs der Geschehnisse.
