Zentraler Streitpunkt der zeitgenössischen Debatte zwischen Naturwissenschaft und Religion ist das Paradigma des szientistischen Reduktionismus, die Welt sei vollständig naturwissenschaftlich erklärbar. So zeigt sich am Beispiel des menschlichen Bewusstseins, dass es Phänomene gibt, die einem szientistischen Reduktionismus zumindest in Teilen grundsätzlich verschlossen sind. Mit dem naturphilosophischen Emergenzbegriff versucht der vorliegende Band eine geeignete Beschreibung für solche Phänomene zu entwickeln und zeigt seine Tragweite für eine Vermittlung im Dialog zwischen Naturwissenschaft und Religion auf.
