Complete and unabridged, with 99 full-page plates by Paul Sandby, J. M. W. Turner and Frank Bernard Dicksee. A Hartford arms-factory foreman takes a crowbar to the head and wakes in the year 528, where he sets about installing telephones, newspapers, soap advertising and gunpowder in Arthur's Britain. Twain began it as a burlesque of chivalry and finished it somewhere a great deal darker; the closing chapters startle readers who came for the jokes. He was pouring his fortune into a typesetting machine while he wrote, and the book has industry on the brain. Its 152 original illustrations have been carefully restored and coloured for this edition.
