Complete and unabridged, with 53 full-page plates by Edvard Munch, Lambert Barnard and Jan van Scorel. Elizabeth's court at Kenilworth, the Earl of Leicester's secret marriage, and the wife hidden away in a country house while the queen is entertained. Scott took Amy Robsart's death from the record - she was found at the foot of a staircase in 1560 - and the question of who arranged it has never been settled. Fifty-three plates, from Munch to Jan van Goyen, follow the novel's castle, forest and river settings through four centuries of landscape and portraiture.
