Complete and unabridged, with 11 full-page plates by Theodor Leopold Weller, Peter von Hess and Ludwig Richter. The Baron's own account of riding a cannonball, of the horse cut in two at the gates of Ochakov and drinking at both ends, of the voyage to the moon and the thawing of the frozen post-horn. Raspe was a German scholar and museum keeper who fled to England ahead of a charge of stealing from his employer's coin cabinet, and published the first English edition anonymously. Later hands added most of the best lies. Eleven landscape plates from 1812 to 1835, among them Karl Philipp Fohr and Ludwig Richter, carry the Baron's tall travels through mountains, waterfalls and southern country roads.
