Complete and unabridged, with 47 full-page plates by Domenichino, Suzanne de Court and Simone Cantarini. Greenland tales taken down word for word from the hunters who told them: the woman who mated with a dog, the soul that went to the moon, the man who avenged himself on the sea, the shamans and their journeys. Rasmussen was born in Greenland, spoke the language from childhood and collected these on the sledge journeys that made his name. Nothing is softened, and the introduction explains why he refused to soften it. Forty-seven plates, from Tintoretto to Moreau, bring the old European vision of strange beasts, souls and voyages to these Greenland tales of hunters and shamans.
