Complete and unabridged, with 60 full-page plates by William Quiller Orchardson, William Corden the Elder and John Watson Gordon. Cambridge lectures on Dickens, Trollope, Thackeray and their contemporaries by the professor who edited the Oxford Book of English Verse. Quiller-Couch wrote them to be read aloud, and the talk is still in the prose. This edition is bound with a gallery of 60 plates of painting, among them portraits by John Everett Millais, George Harvey and Francis Grant, dating from 1840 to 1897.
