Complete and unabridged, with 17 full-page plates by James Lobley, Frederick Goodall and Fra Angelico. The first of Pyle's four Arthurian volumes - the sword in the stone, the winning of Guinevere, Merlin and Vivien - written and illustrated by the American who taught a generation of illustrators. The prose is deliberately archaic and children have never minded. This edition adds a gallery of 17 plates, among them paintings by James Lobley, Hubert von Herkomer and George Turner, alongside 43 illustrations restored and coloured for this volume.
