Complete and unabridged, with 52 full-page plates by Utagawa Hiroshige, Shibata Zeshin and Sesshū Tōyō. Eight stories of bushido told by a Japanese scholar for English readers - the vendettas, the loyalty tests, the suicides - with the code explained from inside rather than admired from outside. This edition is bound with a gallery of 52 plates of painting by artists including Sesshū Tōyō, Tani Bunchō and Utagawa Hiroshige, and eight illustrations restored and coloured for this edition.
