Complete and unabridged, with 60 full-page plates by Philip Burne-Jones, John Robert Dicksee and Frederic Leighton. The literatures of Ireland, Wales, Scotland and Brittany surveyed together - the bardic schools, the epics, the manuscripts and what survived of them. Maclean gave these lectures in Glasgow when Celtic studies were being established as a subject. This edition is bound with a gallery of 60 plates, among them paintings by Henry Raeburn, J. M. W. Turner and Wilhelm Melby, and includes one restored and coloured illustration.
