Complete and unabridged, with 56 full-page plates by Thomas Lawrence, John Constable and George Morland. An Irish family exiled abroad by debt and pride, a father who will not come home and a son who does not know why. Lever wrote it in Italy, where he spent his last years as consul, and it is the most autobiographical of his books about the Anglo-Irish going down. This edition adds fifty-six plates after Erskine Nicol, George Morland and Henry Raeburn, and four illustrations restored and coloured.
