Complete and unabridged, with 40 full-page plates by Noè Bordignon, Nicholas Chevalier and Mina Arndt. The chants and legends of Hawaii set down by the last king of the islands - Pele, the shark gods, the chiefs and the kahunas - published in 1888, five years before the monarchy was overthrown. The American diplomat Rollin M. Daggett edited it for the press. This edition adds a gallery of forty plates, among them paintings by Paul Gauguin, John Collier and Kazimierz Stabrowski, alongside twenty in-text illustrations restored and coloured for this volume.
