Complete and unabridged, with 58 full-page plates by Thomas Hill, Marianne North and Parker Hagarty. Short stories of London and the country houses around it, in the light ironic manner of the Dolly Dialogues rather than the Ruritanian romances. Hope was a barrister and the courtroom timing shows in the dialogue. This edition is bound with a gallery of 58 plates of painting, including portraits by Henry William Pickersgill, John MacLaren Barclay and Margaret Gillies, dated 1840 to 1910.
