Complete and unabridged, with 60 full-page plates by Lawrence Alma-Tadema, Jean-Léon Gérôme and Giovanni Paolo Panini. An argument that the patriarchs of Genesis are solar and lunar myths, made by the greatest European scholar of Islam in the 1870s. Goldziher was twenty-six when he wrote it and later repudiated much of it, which is itself part of the interest. This edition carries R. Martineau's translation and a gallery of 60 plates bound with the text, among them paintings by Panini, Bossi, Linton and Alma-Tadema.
