Complete and unabridged, with 32 full-page plates by John Everett Millais, William Quiller Orchardson and William Powell Frith. Scottish anecdote and character sketches collected by a man who spent his life on the songs and sayings of the country - ministers, beadles, carters and their replies. The humour is dry and the dialect is kept. This edition is bound with a gallery of 32 plates, among them paintings by Edvard Munch, Erskine Nicol and John Everett Millais, and includes 17 illustrations restored and coloured for this printing.
