Complete and unabridged, with 60 full-page plates by Winslow Homer, George Catlin and George Henry Durrie. The pack followed from the inside, and the men who set out to finish it. Evarts had been a market hunter and a conservation officer before he wrote, and the animals in the book behave the way they do in the field rather than in a fable. This edition binds sixty plates of snow-and-winter painting with the text, among them works by George Catlin, Johan Christian Dahl and Gustaf Fjæstad.
