Complete and unabridged, with 58 full-page plates by Thomas Gainsborough, John Constable and George Morland. A young man of ability and no scruples sets out to make himself indispensable to a great man and is destroyed by his own cleverness. Disraeli wrote it anonymously at twenty-one; London read it as a roman a clef, identified everyone, and the scandal nearly ended him before he began. This edition is bound with 58 plates after Thomas Lawrence, Thomas Rowlandson and Patrick Nasmyth, among others, and includes two illustrations restored and coloured for this volume.
