Complete and unabridged, with 60 full-page plates by Thomas Uwins, Pietro Longhi and Giuseppe Palizzi. Italian tales collected region by region - the Sicilian versions, the Tuscan, the Venetian - with notes on where each turns up elsewhere in Europe. Crane was the first American to do this work properly and the collection is still cited. This edition binds sixty plates of Italian painting with the tales, among them Pompeo Mariani, Noè Bordignon and Domenico Induno.
