Complete and unabridged. Sketches of life in a small American town where nothing goes as planned - the undertaker, the newspaper, the neighbors and the machinery of daily embarrassment. Clark wrote as Max Adeler and this was a best seller on both sides of the Atlantic; he later accused Mark Twain of borrowing from him, which was the usual compliment of the trade. Its 88 original illustrations have been carefully restored and coloured for this edition.
