Complete and unabridged, with 58 full-page plates by Willem van Mieris, Wenzel Lorenz Reiner and Sebastiano Conca. The dead as folklore has them - where they go, what they want, why they return, and what the living do about it. Thiselton-Dyer collected across Europe and the book is arranged by what the ghost is doing rather than by country. This edition is bound with a gallery of 58 plates of painting, among them works by Rubens, Conca and Antonello da Messina, dating from 1471 to 1778.
