Complete and unabridged, with 59 full-page plates by Philip de László, Henry Scott Tuke and Charles Sims. Mr Harley Quin appears wherever an old story has been left unfinished — a house party, an inn, a death everyone has agreed to forget — and says almost nothing while his friend Mr Satterthwaite does the talking. Christie called these her favorite stories: the detection is thin, the atmosphere is not, and she kept the pair for occasions when a puzzle alone would not do. Fifty-nine plates of portraits from the years 1893 to 1928, among them works by Philip de László and Ethel Walker, give a face to the vanished English world these twelve stories move through.
