Complete and unabridged, with 60 full-page plates by Vasily Polenov, Ivan Shishkin and Ilya Repin. Stories from the years when Chekhov was still signing himself Antosha Chekhonte, set beside later work - horse thieves on a stormy night, the asylum of Ward No. 6, an old Cossack on his lonely farm, an actor's last engagement. The compression is already complete. This edition is bound with sixty plates of painting, among them works by Ilya Repin, Vasily Perov and Wassily Kandinsky, and carries Constance Garnett's translation.
