Complete and unabridged, with 57 full-page plates by Lawrence Alma-Tadema, Laura Theresa Alma-Tadema and John Atkinson Grimshaw. An Egyptologist lies in a coma in a London house full of relics, his daughter has scratches on her wrist, and in the study stands the mummy of a queen who intended to come back. Fifty-seven plates of moonlit Thames, lamplit interiors and harbour flares by painters including John Atkinson Grimshaw and Lawrence Alma-Tadema carry the novel's uneasy watchfulness into the second edition.
