Complete and unabridged, with 58 full-page plates by Lawrence Alma-Tadema, Laura Theresa Alma-Tadema and David Roberts. Egypt's mummy revives in the year 2126 and finds England a monarchy run by women, with steam carriages, air balloons and coffee delivered by pipe. Jane Loudon published it at twenty, orphaned and penniless, and it may be the first mummy story ever written; the horticulturist she married had read it and sought her out. Fifty-eight plates by painters including David Roberts and Lawrence Alma-Tadema supply Egyptian temples, Cairo streets and classical scenes that suit a tale of a revived mummy in a future century.
