Complete and unabridged, with 58 full-page plates by Thomas Jones, Francesco Guardi and Canaletto. A sequel written by another hand entirely: Monte Cristo's daughter grown, the old scores of the Count's revenge still bleeding, and Paris and Rome still full of people who remember. Flagg was an American consul in Venice and a working journalist, and this is the strangest kind of literary artefact — the Victorian appetite for more of a story, satisfied by the wrong author. Fifty-eight plates of Venice, Rome and the sea by Canaletto, Guardi and others carry the story's ports and waterways from Spithead to the Rialto.
