Complete and unabridged, with 60 full-page plates by José de Madrazo y Agudo, Francisco Goya and Federico de Madrazo y Kuntz. A boy grows up in the Spanish sierra among smugglers and soldiers, in a country sliding towards its own quarrel. The Caseys wrote from years spent in Spain and does not romanticize the poverty. This edition is bound with sixty plates of Spanish painting, 1740–1909, among them Goya, Pérez Villaamil and Madrazo, on boys, fruit-picking, playing soldiers and village bullfights.
