Complete and unabridged, with 48 full-page plates by Wojciech Kossak, Édouard Detaille and Wojciech Gerson. A Welsh officer and an Australian airman in a Turkish prison camp fake a spirit board, convince their captors they can find buried treasure, and talk their way to freedom over many months, in the end by pretending to go mad. Every word of it is true and Jones kept the documents. This edition adds a gallery of 48 plates after painters including Wojciech Kossak, Arnold Böcklin and Karl Nordström, plus 12 illustrations restored and coloured.
