Complete and unabridged, with 100 full-page plates by William Hogarth, John Everett Millais and John Atkinson Grimshaw. A bride learns on her honeymoon that her husband stood trial for murdering his first wife and walked free on the Scottish verdict of Not Proven — neither guilty nor cleared. She sets out to find the evidence that will settle it, against his wishes and against the law's. Paintings of Victorian courtrooms and country libraries run through this Gilded Library volume; a rolled brief, a magnifying glass and a wedding ring carry the decoration.
