Complete and unabridged, with 98 full-page plates by Pieter de Hooch, Claude Lorrain and Adam Frans van der Meulen. Paintings of court intrigue and Gascon bravado; the Gilded Library decoration runs to crossed rapiers, a plumed hat and the diamond studs the plot turns on. Its 231 original illustrations have been carefully restored and coloured for this edition.
