Complete and unabridged, with 13 full-page plates by William Frederick Yeames, William Morrison Wyllie and William Hatherell. Twelve cases from Watson's second gathering: a racehorse gone from a Dartmoor stable, a Greek interpreter, a naval treaty, a crooked man, and at the end the Reichenbach Fall, which Doyle wrote in order to be free of the character for good. He told his mother he meant to kill Holmes and she wrote back begging him not to. Twenty thousand subscribers canceled The Strand. Its 77 original illustrations have been carefully restored and coloured for this edition.
