Complete and unabridged, with 42 full-page plates by William Powell Frith, William Howard Yorke and John Everett Millais. A country girl is engaged to a rising young man who then finds a better offer in London, and the book stays with her afterwards rather than with him. Trollope reckoned Lily Dale a female prig and could not get rid of her; readers wrote to demand she be given the other man, and he refused. This edition binds 42 plates after Constable, Millais, Müller and Beechey, alongside 18 illustrations restored and coloured for the first time.
