Complete and unabridged, with 59 full-page plates by Thomas Cole, John Constable and James Arthur O'Connor. A household in wartime England kept going by a woman making do - the rations, the billeted soldiers, the letters that do and do not come. Agnes Castle wrote most of her books with her husband Egerton; this one she wrote alone, in the middle of the war. This edition includes 59 plates of paintings by John Constable, Stanhope Forbes and others, bound with the text.
