Complete and unabridged, with 56 full-page plates by Nicolai Abildgaard, Pompeo Batoni and Peter Paul Rubens. The gods and epics of India set out in order - the Vedic hymns, the churning of the ocean, the Mahabharata and the Ramayana - for readers meeting the material for the first time. Mackenzie wrote a whole shelf of these national mythologies and this is among the clearest. This edition is bound with 56 plates of painting, among them works by Rubens, Luca Giordano and Dionys van Nijmegen, ranging in date from 1295 to 1876.
