Complete and unabridged, with 37 full-page plates by William Hamilton, Thomas Hardy and Thomas Beach. The witch trials of Dumfries and Galloway from the kirk session records: who was accused, by whom, and what was done to them. Wood quotes the documents at length, and the ordinary local malice visible in them is worse than any of the confessions. This edition adds a gallery of 37 plates, among them paintings by Lemuel Francis Abbott, John William Waterhouse and Niccolò di Buonaccorso, alongside 23 illustrations restored and coloured for this volume.
