Complete and unabridged, with 44 full-page plates by Walter Osborne, Stuart Henry Bell and Erskine Nicol. An old Irish parish priest gets a young curate full of modern ideas, and the two of them argue their way through a year of funerals, tenants and a school. Sheehan was himself a parish priest in Doneraile and wrote the most affectionate account anyone has left of that life. This edition adds a gallery of 44 plates after Walter Osborne, Jessie Emily Scarvell, Henry Moore and others, alongside 16 restored and coloured illustrations.
