Jeremy Garnet is dragged to Dorset by Ukridge, a friend of monumental confidence and no capital, to help run a chicken farm on credit — no fences, no money, no idea — while Garnet courts a professor's daughter next door. Wodehouse wrote this in 1906 and Ukridge is his first great monster; the poultry economics are the funniest sustained thing in early Wodehouse.
